Smart ENVE System 3.4
ENVE has been creating some of the strongest, stiffest and lightest rims on the market and with the Smart System rims they have raised the bar another notch. The SES 3.4 pairs a wider and shallower front rim with a narrower and deeper rear rim — 26mm wide and 35mm deep for the front and 24mm wide and 45mm deep for the rear. The effect is improved stability and reduced drag in any wind condition. The Smart ENVE System 3.4s are a multi-purpose wheelset that can be used in virtually all weather conditions, terrains and disciplines.
This set was built with DT 240S hubs and Sapim CX-Ray spokes. Other hub options are Chris King R45 and Alchemy ELF/ORC.
Dura Ace Excellence 32
Luke's ultimate classic clincher set built to handle the rough roads of the Caribbean Islands. Shimano's superb 7900 hubs mated to Ambrosio Excellence rims. DT Competition spokes 2 cross front, 3 cross rear.
Phil Wood Velocity Deep V Tandem
Bomb-proof tandem set to stand up to infamous Texas Hill Country cattle guards and the like. 40 spokes 4 cross front and rear, 145mm rear spacing and Velocity's all-purpose 30mm rims.
Campy Record 2011 Nemesis
John's second set. This one's for his new all-Campy Willier. 32 Revolution spokes 2 cross front and 3 cross Revolution/Competition rear.
Campy Aerohead and Aerohead O/C
Marco's Campy rebuild with Velocity's Aerohead. The rims have since become a favorite of mine. Not only is the off-center rear rim is a great way to even out the L/R tension but the rims build up with ease.
Dura Ace Nemesis
Classic tubular build for Shimano enthusiasts: silky smooth Dura Ace 7900 hubset, Nemesis rims, DT Competition spokes, 2 cross front, 3 cross rear and brass nipples. Bring on the pavé.
Alchemy A23 Silver
Jim is one lucky guy. Not only did he get a custom frame fit at the Tommasini factory, he then chose Alchemy hubs, Velocity A23 rims and Sapim CX-Ray spokes, all in silver, for a modern set that compliments his classic steel ride.
Vanilla-flavored H3 Nemesis
Houston says he "absolutely loves looking down and seeing the silver White Industries hubs spinning in the sunshine." With Nemesis rims, his wheelset is the perfect match for his custom Vanilla frameset with classic stage race geometry. Frameset details: mix of Columbus and True Temper Tubing; polished Vanilla drops; slightly re shaped and thinned Llewellyn XL sloping head lugs with a fillet brazed seat cluster and bottom bracket; swoopy chainstays and seatstays; chromed driveside chainstay for a bit of classic Italian style.
Classic Campy Record Nemesis
Marco sent me his beautiful silver Campy Record 2006 hubs for a rebuild with Nemesis tubulars and DT Revolutions (with DT Competition on the drive side rear). He says he "has been riding the heck out of them. Gravel, light off-road trails, as well as pot-holed inner city streets. With 24mm Pavé tubulars, 95 and 100psi (F&R), it takes them all on, stays true and the ride quality is fantastic. Best riding wheels I've ever owned."
Red & White Alchemy A23
Jerry races cross, mtn and road and is a big guy at 6’3 215 lbs. He can also bunny hop a park bench on his cross bike. His teammates say he is hard on wheels. He chose Alchemy ELF and ORC hubs in red with Velocity A23 rims in white for a little extra bling. DT Aerolite spokes, 28 front radial and 32 rear 3 cross.
R45 Nemesis Fruit Loops
For his first new set of wheels in over 10 years and his first set of tubulars, Rusty chose Chris King R45 hubset in cool mango, classic Ambrosio Nemesis tubulars and silver DT Competition spokes with tangerine-flavored DT Alu nipples. 3 cross front and rear.
Excellight Phil Wood Freewheel
John and I chose the perfect Phil Wood hubset to upgrade his vintage Motobecane. I matched the hubset with 36 hole Ambrosio Excellight rims that I was hoarding for myself. My loss, John's gain.
Dura Ace 7600 Track Wheels
When Mike contacted me about track wheels he said, "And I do mean track. I'm not a hipster and actually grew up near a velodrome." Shimano Dura Ace 7600 high flange hubs are still available and are the real deal... authenic track equipment. The hubs are matched with Velocity Escape tubulars (non-machined braking surface) and Sapim CX-Rays, 28 radial front and 3 cross rear. Result is a beautiful all-silver set that Mike says, "maneuver so well... so much more responsive than I thought they'd be."
I ride what I build. See my wheels.
