RT WheelCraft is a limited-production shop located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. I build premium neo classic alloy road wheels, carbon wheels, and do repairs and rebuilds. I specialize in road and cross wheels and also build select mountain bike wheels. I do all the builds from start to finish. My craftsmanship is second to none.
I have been around bikes for most of my life. My family built bikes during the 1890's bicycle boom and my great uncle Terry Andrae was multi-times Wisconsin state champion. It was a relatively short-lived fad for the family back then but in 1973 this issue of International Cycle Sport magazine got me hooked on racing and I took over where the family left off. Between 1973 and 1992 I raced for 13 seasons including 5 years of ultra-distance events. Back in those days 40K, 12 hour and 24 hour time trials were my specialty.
I worked at Rainbow Jersey Bike Shop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for four years in the mid-70's and during that time learned the fundamentals of wheel building. With rough tehnique and some crude tools, we built wheels that did the job.
In more recent years, I have fine-tuned my skills by utilizing a variety of new tools and resources that weren't available to me "back in the day" and have learned to craft wheelsets with modern components that offer performance that far exceeds what was possible in the past.
